COMMEMORATIVE EVENTS
50th Anniversary of the
Vietnam War
As part of the NSDAR partnership with The United States of America Vietnam War 50th Anniversary Commemoration
established by Congress, Sumter's Home Chapter hosted a county-wide event to thank and honor veterans of the Vietnam War. This included personnel who were held as prisoners of war (POW) or listed as missing in action (MIA). It was our privilege to thank them for their service and sacrifice on behalf of the United States and to thank and honor their families.
WELCOME HOME ! ! !
Re-Internment of Revolutionary War Patriots
Sumter's Home Chapter was extremely proud to have been part of the April 22, 2023 Re-internment Ceremonies of 14 Revolutionary War soldiers found on the "Battle of Camden" battlefield in Camden, SC. Our ladies followed the horse drawn caissons as they solemnly proceeded from the Kershaw-Cornwallis house, where the Patriots had been lying in state, to the historic Camden Presbyterian Church for the moving, heart-felt funeral Service. To have experienced this event was to epitome of all that DAR stands for... Revolutionary War Patriots are the rocks upon which we stand.
Gen. Thomas Sumter's
Birthday Commemoration
On Sunday, August 13, 2023, a Commemoration and Wreath Laying Ceremony was held in honor of Gen. Thomas Sumter's decendents, courtesy of Sumter County 250 Committee, Sumter's Home Chapter Daughters of the American Revolution, and Colonel Matthew Singleton Chapter Sons of the American Revolution. What a great way to celebrate General Sumter's 289th birthday, which was the following day.
